Why Congo needs Laptops For Health
  • Desktops are not appropriate for rural areas where electricity is scarce (or non existent).
  • Laptops have been successfully used in some health zones (a few with solar recharging).
  • Congolese doctors cannot afford new (or even used) laptops. A government MD makes $100 a month.
  • Laptops For Health can provide used functional laptops to Congo Health Professionals                     for free or at a nominal cost.
12
Laptops For Health...
  • Is a program of Interchurch Medical Assistance (I.M.A.), a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit since 1964.
  • Accepts donations of functional P3/4 laptops or cash to purchase laptops.  Gifts are tax deductible
  • Resells some donated laptops to cover the cost of spare parts, laptop rehab and shipping.
  • Prepares selected models for Congo, e.g., with extra batteries and legally installed software.
  • Distributes laptops within Congo through                I.M.A. projects managed with local partners.

Laptops For Health – The Objectives
  • Provide a functional P3 (or faster) laptop to every Health Zone in DRC (that needs one).
  • Begin with the 75 health zones assisted by the IMA/ECC partnership.
  • Expand to other health zones in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (and in coordination with other partners to avoid duplication of efforts).
  • Laptops will be mapped by serial number so donors may track their final destination.
  • Spare parts will be maintained in DRC                         to support repair and maintenance.
